Because of the warmth brought by the North Atlantic tides, Denmark's winter temperatures are rarely below freezing point. Summer temperatures hover about 20 degree celsius, and the water has a maximum temperature of 17 degree Celsius so not horrendously cold, but a wetsuit would be advised!&nbsp;This is a year round spot for wind, but as it's a frontal wind it’s best to keep your eyes on the forecast. The ideal months to visit this destination in Denmark for kitesurfing and waves are March to early June and September to November, when the wind tends to be at its most consistent and the temperature is manageable. Longer spells of no wind can frequently occur during the summer months, but you can be lucky if you are there at the right time with the right forecast!</p><h3>Around the kite spot Hvide Sande</h3><p>Hvide Sande's southern section is renowned for its waves. On days with a northwest wind, clean waves run around the southern half that can reach the two-meter mark, depending on the wind strength. <h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Thorsminde</h3><p>The water is lovely and flat in the Fjord, and the only hazards are some shallower spots and a strong current further North. The fjord area is suitable for every type of wind speed and direction. The wind speed is not fixed as it relies on frontal winds, so the best bet is to keep an eye on the forecast and go when it looks good! It’s mainly a kitesurfing spot, as the water is occasionally very shallow in the shore zones and from the entrance to the north. Windsurfers tend to avoid this spot as they can get their fins stuck/broken on the bottom. The water is pretty flat due to the shallow water, but some chop can be expected in certain spots and certain wind directions, particularly when it gets strong. It’s a popular spot for Germans and local Danish riders, but there is a lot of space so you should be able to find your own kitesurfing area.</p><p>Almost all wind directions can be ridden in Thorsminde, but NW to NE and SE to SW work best. Because the area is constrained to the north by very shallow water and an adjacent nature reserve, and the south by numerous fishing nets, West and East only function to a limited extent. Winds from the west are typically strong and gusty.&nbsp;</p><h3>Around the kiteboard spot Thorsminde</h3><p>Thorsminde is the ideal place for a range of water-based activities. Sailing and surfing attract a large number of visitors. Canoeing, rowing, diving, coastal rowing, swimming, and stand-up paddleboards are available at the Sea and Fjord House. Plenty of people drive their campers here from Germany, with Hamburg only 4 hours drive away.</p>

<p>On the west bank of the Nissum Fjord, the 900m wide peninsula between the Fjord and the North Sea, Thorsminde kitesurfing spot offers a huge shallow lagoon, perfect for kitesurfers of all levels. It works in almost all wind directions, and the parking and&nbsp;easiest launch can be found at the Thorsminde campsite. Generally the best times for kitesurfing with a mix of wind and comfort are between April and October, when the air and water temperature are more reasonable for human survival. During this time the wind can be on and off, so best to consult a few wind forecasts, or just call the local kite schools and ask them what conditions look like. Luckily wind forecasts in Europe tend to be pretty good, so you can plan your trip based on them and go where the wind is. Ideal conditions are with the wind from the West, South or East. In Northerly wind you’ll probably want to head to the North side of Fehmarn.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Gollendorf</h3><p>Fehmarn is a popular tourist destination for Germans, with a real family friendly atmosphere making it a great summer weekend getaway. You’ll find plenty of activities from cycling to climbing to yoga, and there are a number of great places to eat and drink the evening away if that’s more your speed. Generally the island attracts active people and the vibe reflects that, so you’ll most likely find a good group to hang out with particularly if you are kitesurfing.</p><h3>How to get to Gollendorf and how to move there</h3><p>The closest airport you’ll find is Hamburg Airport (HAM) which is 2hrs away from the kite spot. The public transportation is reliable and frequent, but most likely you’ll want a rental car to reach the various spots on Fehmarn. It’s also a popular spot for camping, with a number of campsites nearby, perfect if you are travelling with a camper van. Bear in mind in summer they can fill up fast so it’s worth calling and booking ahead to make sure you can get a spot.</p>

<p>Fehmarn on the Baltic sea in Northern Germany is well known for kitesurfing, hosting the world cup each year and being the spiritual home of Core kites. The kite spot at Gollendorf offers a large lagoon with shallow water, perfect for anyone looking for flat water to practice, from total beginners up to professional kitesurfers. Being in Northern Europe it’s not a kite spot which is always windy, but since it works in multiple wind directions you can generally grab a session here if there is wind in the forecast. The summer can be nice and warm on Fehmarn but the winters are bitterly cold, so even though the wind statistics are better in the winter it’s only the hardiest kitesurfers that will want to venture out at that time of year!</p><p>Watch out for the large rocks on the edge of the water, particularly when entering and exiting the water for kitesurfing. Beginners might be more comfortable launching their kites while already standing in the water.</p>

Watch out for the rocks when you enter the water. Make sure to use the boat ramp to enter the water, otherwise the rocks will hurt your foot. Ask locals to help by launching your kite, it might be a bit difficult. Your lines could tear up with the rocks.

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Kos - Kohilari Beach</h3><p>The Meltemi thermal wind builds through the morning, ranging from about 10-18 knots, then picks up towards the afternoon and can reach 25 knots, blowing side to side onshore. Kohilari is the best of the Kos kitesurfing beaches; it is sandy, so no shoes are needed, and it also doesn't get too crowded because there is plenty of space on the water. Some people enjoy kiteboarding near the center and there are often people taking lessons, so it may get crowded right in front, but you are not forced to hang around and there's plenty of room for kitesurfing further up the Kohilari beach.</p><p>The wind is usually pretty constant, and the water is shallow for around 15-20 meters before it gets deep so it's ideal for beginners and pro kitesurfers alike. When it's windy, little waves break over the sandy bottom, which are great fun to kitesurf in, and the flat sections in between mean both wave riders and freestylers will feel equally at home.</p><h3>Around the Kite spot Kos - Kohilari Beach</h3><p>Kos Island is a hidden jewel that's well worth discovering, tucked away and nearly unnoticed amid the many other islands. Kos’ kitesurfing beaches are some of the most gorgeous you'll find in Europe, and if you're around in the summer The Mediterranean has it all, from its stunning turquoise water to its extremely diversified culture and rich history. The south coast of Kos is not suitable for kitesurfing since the wind blows off-shore and the coast is more rough and rocky. Agios Loannis monastery, located on the South Western tip of the island overlooking Paradise beach is worth a visit for some history and culture, and then you can head down to the beach for a dip. The water is very clear and beautiful here, and it's tucked away so it doesn't get particularly busy. There are also plenty of other beaches to discover if you fancy exploring the island!</p><p>If silence and tranquilly isn’t your thing, head to Kos Town and enjoy the hustle and bustle. If you need to go shopping, Kos Town is also the best option to go and find a present for your loved ones. There are plenty of guided and unguided tour options on the island, from 4wd to boats, beaches to hilltop monasteries, no wind days offer plenty of alternatives.</p><h3>How to get to Kohilari Beach and how to move there</h3><p>Kefalos is located on the island's South Western edge, 43 kilometers from Kos Town. Only 3km away, Kefalos is the closest town to Kohilari beach and a good place to pick up the essentials. Kos International Airport is located in the heart of the island, only about 15-20 minutes from the kiteboarding at Kohilari beach. During the summer, there are frequent flights bringing tourists to Kos from all over Europe, so finding a flight should be really easy.&nbsp;You can take a taxi from the airport to Kefalos for roughly 25 euros, or rent a car yourself for the duration of your stay. It is pretty affordable and the best mode of transportation during your kitesurfing holiday on Kos.</p>

long, annually. The wind is omnidirectional and gusty, with speeds

wind brings harsh kitesurfing conditions but cools the atmosphere and increases
visibility.</span> Paralia Kastraki can be also in a small range a thermal wind spot; hence, the forecast is not 100% accurate. <span>Ask the local residents, surrounding kite schools, and regular

on your mountain bike.</span></p><h3><span>How to get to Paralia Kastraki and how to move there</span></h3><p></p><p><span>Fly or Ferry to Naxos. Kastraki beach is about 30 minutes
drive from Naxos Airport. The bus service is infrequent, hence not reliable.
You can choose between cars, a motorbike or use taxi. The road is peach-paved
for your smooth journey. Head south, passing through Vivlos village, where you
will see the signs to Kastraki after about 16km. Park your vehicle near the
beach and start exploring.</span></p><p></p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Sigri</h3><p>May until October is when the Meltemi wind blows and is the main kitesurfing season, but due to the shape of the bay here you can kitesurf in almost any wind direction and any time of year. From May until October you can expect between 15-25 knots most days, with the wind picking up towards lunch time and blowing until sunset. This is due to it being a thermal wind, so the sun needs to be shining for a little bit before it picks up, and makes for lovely lazy mornings followed by epic kiteboarding afternoons. In the early or late season you’ll want a wetsuit, but June-August you should be fine in just shorts and tshirt.</p><p>The water is pretty flat all over, with the flattest sections being just near the launching spot and behind the islands around the bay. The wind close to shore can be gusty, so take care while launching and landing your kite. Also be aware of windsurfers on the water, as the spot is popular for both kitesurfing and windsurfing.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Sigri</h3><p>There are restaurants, a bakery, supermarkets etc in Sigri itself so you don’t need to move anywhere else if you just want to eat, kite, sleep, repeat! But if you want a bit of a change then Lesvos has plenty on offer, being the third largest Greek island. You can visit a number of historical sites, with the museum of industrial olive oil production being a popular choice, or go really ancient and visit the temple of Messon. Other than that it’s a popular tourist spot, so the usual beaches, sightseeing options are available, or just go for a snorkel in the crystal clear water.&nbsp;</p><h3>How to reach Sigriand how to move there?</h3><p>For all international travelers, Mytilene International Airport (MJT) is the only airport on Lesvos and the one you’ll want to fly to given the option. You can also get a ferry to Lesvos if you want to experience the scenic route, it’ll just take longer. The best bet is to rent a car if you want to have your freedom and explore Lesvos at all, however if you want a purely kitesurfing trip it’s possible to stay in Sigri and cycle or walk up and down to the spot every day.</p>

<p>Located on the western side of Lesvos Island, Sigri is a small fishing village with a protected bay and consistent thermal wind all through the summer, making it a great flat water kitesurfing and windsurfing spot. The Meltemi wind which blows from May until October means there is wind most days, so the lack of local amenities won’t be a problem as you’ll probably spend all of your time on the water anyway. There’s no ATM or petrol station in town, so you need to think ahead if you are coming here, but the relaxed local vibe, traditional buildings and local restaurants offering fantastically fresh seafood all add up to a great package if you want to unwind and get away from it all.</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Kremasti Beach</h3><p>Wind conditions are pretty consistent in Kremasti for kitesurfing, especially throughout the months of June, July and August. During these months, the temperature usually exceeds 30 degrees and remains pleasantly warm even at night, so you won't need a wetsuit for kiteboarding, and you can leave your winter jacket at home. The chance of wind is usually over 90%, and the days are typically sunny with hardly any rain during the summer.&nbsp;</p><p>The Meltemi thermal wind usually picks up through the morning and blows from the left side of the beach. Between Rhodes and Turkey, it takes a westward swing and pushes its way through the straits so it accelerates into Kremasti. Usually it starts out light in the morning but will average somewhere around 15-20 knots in the afternoon, ideal for learning to kitesurf or practice your best tricks. <h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Porto Pollo</h3><p>July to September is peak season in Porto Pollo with the best chance of scoring epic kitesurfing conditions, but as mentioned any time from April to October can work really well. The wind normally blows cross or cross onshore here, and you can expect somewhere between 15 and 30 knots depending on the day. Due to the thermal nature of the wind and a venturi effect at Porto Pollo you can’t always rely on the forecast for an accurate picture, and it’s often more on the day than the forecast suggested. If in doubt the best bet is to reach out to one of the local kite schools and they can give you more detailed local information.&nbsp;</p><p>The water is flatter close to shore with some chop out further, not really much in the way of waves here. Summer time is board shorts and tshirt weather, but if you are a little early or late in the season you might want to pack a wetsuit as it can get a little chilly after a long kite session.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Porto Pollo</h3><p>The local town Palau is 7km away from Porto Pollo and is where you’ll find supermarkets, restaurants, bars, with all that good Italian food and drink on offer. If the wind lets you down just relax on the beach, or to get your heart going a bit you could rent some SUP’s, go for a bike ride or hike up Mount Altura which is nearby.</p><p>Another good option for a day off from kitesurfing is to take a boat trip to the nearby Maddalena national park, There are plenty of trips available and the boats leave from the port in Palau, so you can enjoy the stunning clear water and incredible beauty of the place, either from the boat or get in and go snorkelling.</p><h3>How to get to Porto Pollo and how to move there</h3><p>Olbia Airport (OLB) is the closest around 45 minutes away from Porto Pollo, or you can also fly in to Alghero (AHO) which is around 2 hours drive. The best bet for your stay is to hire a rental car and be able to explore the beautiful surroundings of Sardinia, but if you don’t want to get one then taxis are readily available and reasonably priced.</p>

<p>Porto Pollo offers a large sandy bay for kitesurfing which has pretty flat water, works in any wind direction and is perfect for anyone from total beginners up to pro kitesurfers. It’s nice and warm in the summer and due to the local geography there is generally enough wind to kitesurf the majority of days from April until October. Sardinia is a beautiful location which has a lot to explore even for non kitesurfers, which makes it a great family holiday destination not far from the rest of Europe. It’s not exactly party central at Porto Pollo but if you’re after some restaurants, bars and clubs the local town of Palau has enough to keep you entertained in the evening.</p>

<p>The Kite Spot Punta Trettu is certainly one of the best spots for kitesurfing in Sardinia. Its shallow, crystal clear waters, the shallow sandy bottom, the constant winds that blow in the bay all year round, and the large launch sites that are able to accommodate many kites in complete safety. All these factors make Punta Trettu an ideal place to learn the basics of kitesurfing and to practice more advanced freestyle tricks. Due to the particular configuration of the bay, Punta Trettu works with most of the wind directions of the Mediterranean: Mistral, Ponente, Sirocco, Levante and Libeccio. Due to the thermal effect, the winds of Mistral and Sirocco are always 5/10 knots stronger than indicated in the weather forecast!</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Velika Plaza</h3><p>During the summer is the time you’ll want to plan a visit, when the temperature is a bit warmer and you can rely on the thermal wind to come through, delivering between 15 and 25 knots on most afternoons. The months for the most reliable thermal are from June to September, which also coincides with the busiest months for local and international tourists. It’s possible to score good sessions in May and October as well but it can be a bit more of a gamble, and be a bit lighter.</p><p>The first 100m or so are shallow, so perfect for beginners and reasonably flat for freestyle kitesurfers, with some small chop to deal with on takeoff and landing. The air temperature gets up to around 30 degrees celsius at the height of summer with the water a comfortable 22 degrees celsius. So from June to August you shouldn’t need a wetsuit, but at either end of the season a shorty or a thin full length wetsuit will be necessary.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Velika Plaza</h3><p>Nearby Ulcinj is one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro and has an old city complete with fortified walls and cobbled streets, which is definitely worth a visit to absorb some history. If that’s not your thing there are multiple beach bars and restaurants near the kite spot itself and more in town, so you shouldn’t struggle for options. Montenegro is also growing in popularity for white water rafting, mountain biking, climbing, diving and paragliding to name just a few of the no wind options. There are plenty of tour operators offering trips, so it’s good to plan a little bit before you travel to make sure you can fit everything in.</p><h3>How to get to Velika Plaza and how to move there</h3><p>Depending where you are travelling from will decide which airport you fly to, but the two options are Podgorica (TGD) and Tivat (TIV), both of which are around 1 to 2 hours drive from the kite spot depending on traffic. You’ll most likely want to pick up a cheap rental car from the airport and drive yourself, as most accommodation options are in Ulcinj about 10km from the kite spot. The best bet for accommodation is to be closer to the spot, as especially during the summer the traffic from Ulcinj to Velika Plaza can be horrendous.</p>

<p>Velika Plaza in Montenegro directly translates to long beach, so you can probably guess what the kite spot looks like, with a 14km long stretch of sand, flatter sections in the shallow water close to the beach, then some chop and small waves. The kitesurfing conditions are probably best described as bump and jump kitesurfing. It’s an up and coming destination which is starting to attract more and more kitesurfers every year, and since the beach is 14km long you are unlikely to run out of room. A reliable thermal blows during the summer season and you can generally expect 15-25 knots most days when the sun shines.</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Brouwersdam</h3><p>There are designated kitesurfing areas here, marked by yellow buoys. Be aware this is also a popular spot for kite landboarding, kite buggying and blow karts, so just have your wits about you on the beach and look for other beach users.</p><p>The windiest months in Northern Europe are the winter months, but they are also the months when you are most likely to lose a finger to frostbite and therefore for advanced kitesurfers and sadists only. So the main season in Brouwersdam is during the summer months from May until September, when the temperature is much more reasonable and you’re less likely to die of hypothermia! Wind is frontal in Europe (i.e. not entirely consistent) but the thermal wind can help to stabilise it, so keep an eye on the forecast for Brouwersdam and go when it looks good. Luckily there are a lot of windy days here, but if you aren’t sure about the forecast the best option is to contact the local kite schools for more information and they can let you know if it’s worth the trip.</p><p>At low tide you’ll get the flattest water for freestyle kiteboarding, and as the tide rises is when the waves will come through and it might be more fun with a surf board. Be aware of strong currents as the tide moves in and out, and check the tides before your trip so you aren’t disappointed.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Brouwersdam</h3><p>The local area offers a nice relaxing atmosphere in a remote spot, and in the case of non windy days it’s also possible to surf nearby, go on a SUP tour, go wakeboarding at the local cable park, or just rent a bike and enjoy cycling around. In the evenings you can chill at the campsite, hang out with other kitesurfers at one of the kite centres, or head into Renesse for a more lively party scene.&nbsp;Food wise there are a number of places on the beach to grab a bite to eat, and for more options the nearby towns offer a good range of cuisines.</p><h3>How to reach Brouwersdam and how to move there?</h3><p>You’ll definitely want a car or a camper van to move around here, as public transport isn’t really an option, and particularly if you want to have the freedom to explore the area then your own transport is essential. Any international travellers would be best served flying to Rotterdam (RTM) and hiring a car from there.</p>

<p>Brouwersdam offers a beautiful kitesurfing location with a wide sandy beach in the Netherlands, and acres of shallow water perfect for beginners to advanced kitesurfers alike. At low tide you’ll find the shallowest and flattest water with the waves picking up towards high tide, so there can be vastly different conditions depending on the tide. It’s a remote kite spot backed by sand dunes, and due to its location on the North sea coast the wind conditions are often perfect for kitesurfing with over 50% of days kiteable throughout the year. Of course being in Northern Europe the temperature can be a big deciding factor in your enjoyment on the water, but in the summer months this is a picture perfect European kitesurfing destination, with various campsites nearby, a variety of beachside restaurants and a great vibe.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Bom Sucesso</h3><p>Most wind directions work in the lagoon and the launch from Bom Sucesso is wide and sandy, making it beginner-friendly while also offering amazing freestyle kiteboarding conditions for advanced riders. The peak season for visiting Bom Sucesso for kitesurfing is between June and September, when the famous Nortada wind brings average wind daily speeds of around 15 to 25 knots. As with many places in Europe though the conditions can work any time of year, just keep an eye on the forecast if you fancy a flat water kiting mission!</p><h3>Around the kite spot Bom Sucesso</h3><p>The beaches on the nearby Peniche and Beleal peninsulas face North, South, and West, so waves smash into the beaches regardless of the swell direction. Waves will range from moderate and smooth to full-on strength throughout the year, making for ideal surf conditions even when the wind is light. Other than that Portugal is a beautiful country with tons to do and explore. Why not rent a bike and explore some undiscovered trails, or just slow down and enjoy the traditional way of life that you can find in the nearby villages. People here have traditionally embraced a slower pace of living, and when you visit it can leave a mark on you, just remember to get back up to speed when you head home!</p><h3>How to get to Bom Sucesso and how to bring it about while you're there</h3><p>The nearest international airport is Lisbon (LIS) which is around one hours drive away. Portugal has public transport but you’re much better off renting a car here to get around, especially if you want to explore the local area some more.</p>

<p>Praia do Bom Sucesso on the Obidos Lagoon used to be a bit of a hidden gem kiteboard spot, but it has gained popularity in recent years due to visits by pro kitesurfers and Portugal in general exploding onto the scene (Looking at you Nazare...). The combination of plenty of space, flat water, and the Portuguese Nortada wind makes for a fantastic kite spot for all levels. The quality of kite schools and kite surf infrastructure here have dramatically improved in recent years and so it has become much more welcoming for adventure lovers.</p><p>You are only allowed to kiteboard on the estuary and Northern side from mid September until mid June, the summer months are reserved for general public use, so if you visit in summer you’ll have to go kitesurfing a bit further into the lagoon, but Bom Sucesso is still a great place to launch from.</p>

It`s forbidden to go out in summer peak season (15.06 - 15.09). The first 500 m inside direction of the lagoon is only for beach guests.  You need to go more far in the lagoon, to the kitespot Obidos Lagoon. You can kite also on the Ocean, where will be waves and not many swimmers or tourists around.

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Obidos Lagoon</h3><p>Obidos lagoon works for kitesurfing in all wind directions. The Nortada in the summer months blows between 15-25 knots most days from May-September and is the most consistent time of year for wind. Other than that you’ll just have to rely on the forecast and check it as it comes, like with most spots in Europe. There’s a good chance of wind here due to the natural shape of the mountains funneling the wind in, so it might be a good idea to get in touch with a local kite school for the most accurate wind conditions.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Obidos Lagoon</h3><p>Cheap flights in and out of the country have helped the once-quaint west Portuguese coast to become a thriving hotspot for adventure-seekers and those searching for a more romantic escape. Anyone looking for sunny beaches, genuine local feelings, and a slower pace of life will feel right at home here. Obidos will not fail you if you look for superb meals, nice accommodation, and ideal kitesurfing conditions.</p><p>There are surf spots up and down the nearby coast and plenty of mountain biking to be done as well depending how energetic you feel. If you just want to relax, Portugal definitely has your back, with great food, great wine (and Port obviously), and great people.</p><h3>How to get to Obidos Lagoon and how to bring it about while you're there</h3><p>Lisbon airport (LIS) is the closest international airport. Your best bet is to rent a car and drive yourself, especially if you want to be able to get to the different launch sites, and to explore the local area in general. There’s parking at various points around the lagoon depending on the wind direction.</p>

<p>The Obidos Lagoon is one of the best places in Portugal to start kiteboarding because of the shallow, waist-deep water, which is generally flat and with acres of space. The Lagoon, located one hour north of Lisbon in the Centro Region, is exposed to the full force of the Nortada wind, which is funneled in by the neighboring hills. Summer conditions are ideal, but this is a year-round kiteboarding spot as Obidos works&nbsp;in all wind directions and at all times of the day. There's lots of space to practice as it's generally less crowded than some of the other kite spots nearer to Lisbon. The flat water is perfect for mastering all your tricks, whether that’s relaunching your kite, first jumps, board offs, or busting your first double handle pass. Because the bottom is sandy and there are no channels to draw you out into the ocean, the Obidos Lagoon is a relatively safe area spot to learn to kitesurf, and also offers amazing freestyle kiteboarding conditions for you aspiring pro riders.</p>

bay. A wide sandy beach gives you pleasant conditions to practice kitesurfing
all year round. The water is flat till 20 meters offshore and becomes choppy
with the blowing wind. As the kite spot is free of stones or rocks, kitesurfers
often flock in on weekends from spring to summer. The place is suitable for all
kinds of kiteboarders, from beginner to advanced. There is a Kite Expert Zone
to allow a safe environment for the kitesurfers and other beach strollers. The
best time of year to come surfing here is from June till September.</p><h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Sant Pere Pescador</h3><p></p><p>The kitesurf spot Sant Pere Pescador bears the strong
Tramuntana wind from the Pyrenees. During the summer months, the sea breeze
flows from the southeast, gradually speeding up during the day. You can expect
the wind to go up from 12 to 20 knots, but the gusts can go up to 30 knots.
Many of the thermal wind dominant kite spots like Sant Pere Pescador have
localized wind systems that are much smaller. Most wind statistics you see are
historical “forecasts” that can’t account for smaller localized winds. The
forecasts do not accurately capture the strength of localized winds. Hence, if
you plan to fly off to Sant Pere Pescador, gather wind information from local
kite schools or centers.</p><h3>Around the kite spot, Sant Pere Pescador</h3><p></p><p>The kite schools offer courses for both beginners and
intermediates to excel at kiteboarding. To obtain lessons from the kite school,
plan your trip during the summer. Kite schools are closed during winter. If you
are an experienced kitesurfer, just rent your kite gear from the surf shop and
set forth to the sea. No need to fear; there is a medical center here. If there
is a lack of wind, you can rent a paddleboard and voyage through the Fluviá
River or stop to fish. You can rent a bike to wander the coastline. There are a
few points for spotting birds at the beach. Among the land sports, here you can
go hiking and horse riding. The choice of apartments on the island is diverse.
But the kiters usually pick campsites on the beach to stay close to the sea at
all times. There are various camping sites south of Empuriabrava. After a good
kitesurfing session, gather for a drink and have dinner. Finally, at the end of

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Empuriabrava</h3><p>In summer side-onshore thermal breezes blow from the right throughout the day, gradually increasing in intensity. The thermal winds will be steady at 12 to 13 knots, and occasionally picking up to hit 18-20 knots, so pretty ideal for kitesurfing. When the Tramuntana wind comes from the North or North West, it blows day and night and becomes powerful and gusty close to shore. This generally happens more in the winter months but can happen any time of year so keep your eyes on the forecast. It is Catalonia's most extensive collection of lakes and wetlands, and it was designated as a protected natural park in the mid-80s. The Poniente wind blows onshore and is slightly lighter around 10-25 knots, which is the ideal wind direction for learning to kitesurf. The levante wind blows cross offshore and can get really strong and gusty up to 40 knots, so definitely more suited to advanced kiteboarders. In peak season it gets really busy, so for learning to kite it’s definitely better to avoid the middle of summer, particularly July and August. You’ll want a wetsuit all year round, and the water here ranges from choppy to wavey depending on the wind direction and strength.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Los Lances</h3><p>Tarifa has a lot to do other than kitesurfing, which is part of the reason why it’s still a hugely popular destination for European kitesurfers. If you want to eat good food you’re in the right place, there are tons of restaurants and cafes offering something for everyone, and there are bars offering parties until the early hours of the morning. If you want to stay healthy and look after your body there are plenty of yoga studios and gyms, along with organic food to be found all over. Other than that you can surf, hike, climb, mountain bike, or just wander around the local shops in town for hours on end.</p><h3>How to get to Los Lances and how to move there&nbsp;</h3><p>Gibraltar (GIB) is the closest airport around 45 minutes drive from Los Lances, but you’ll often find cheaper flights to Malaga (AGP) if you don’t mind the slightly longer 2 hour drive. The absolute best option wherever you fly to is to rent a car, as you’ll need a car to reach all the spots around Tarifa. Luckily rental cars are generally pretty cheap in Spain, so it’s not a huge extra expense, and worth it to have your own transport if you want to explore the local area some more. Just don’t leave valuables in the car when kiting as Tarifa is known for some theft at the spots.</p>

<p>Los Lances is one of the four main beaches for kitesurfing in Tarifa, about 3km from town itself.&nbsp;Tarifa is one of the original kitesurfing meccas and still attracting hordes of beginners, intermediates and pro riders to this day. During the summer there will be kite zones set out along the beach so it’s important to try and abide by the rules, but once you are in the water you can enjoy kiteboarding in the open ocean. Tarifa is known for being one of the windiest kite spots in Europe, so there’s a good reason people still flock there in huge numbers, but it can be horrendously busy in peak season so if you prefer untouched empty beaches from your kite holidays this might not be for you. The conditions here aren’t necessarily the best kitesurfing wise, but people return year on year for the mix of kiteboarding and the local vibe.</p>

The wind can be strong and gusty here in the summer as it funnels down between the two mountains, and on the beach it blows cross offshore which means all the local kite schools offer rescue facilities, you’ll just have to pay for them. Fuerteventura means “strong wind” and Sotavento is no exception to that, being even windier than the spots in the North of the island.&nbsp;</p>

Generally during this time it’ll average over 20 knots, and the wind tends to pick up just before lunch, meaning if you like to sleep in this place might suit you. Due to the cross offshore wind direction the wind can be pretty gusty here, but compared to some Northern European spots it’s not too bad.</p><p>The water close to the beach is flat, and gets more choppy the further out you go, with little waves offering nice clean kickers to jump off closer to shore. Watch out for big shore dump at high tide and in strong wind, but generally it’s a pretty easy entry to the water. There is a kitesurf zone which is marked on the beach and with various signs, but if in doubt ask the local schools. The average daily temperature in the winter is 20 degrees Celsius, while in the summer it is around 28 degrees Celsius. The water temperature usually ranges between 18 to 23 degrees Celsius. The wind here is thermally generated so as the land heats up the air rises, pulling in colder air from the ocean. The wind picks up speed in the morning and reaches its peak about noon. The stronger the wind the more gusty it becomes. Wind speed usually starts from 15 knots and can get really strong, so this is definitely a good spot to have a small kite in the bag.</p><h3>Around the Matas Blancas kitesurf spot</h3><p>Local landmarks include the Punta Janda Lighthouse and the Villa Winter Museum, while the natural beauty of the area can be witnessed on the north of Costa Calma Beach. Fuerteventura is a rugged island with stark natural beauty, and the area around Matas Blancas is pretty chilled, but you can surf nearby or snorkel and swim around the spot. If you want some more action you can head to Costa Calma itself, or drive even further North and visit Corralejo for a change of scenery and a night out on the town.</p><h3>How to travel to Matas Blancas and how to get around after you've arrived</h3><p>Matas Blancas kite spot is located just before Costa Calma. <h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Famara</h3><p>Famara Beach is the main spot on Lanzarote with the most consistent winds for kitesurfing and easiest access for kitesurfers of all levels. The best (and luckily most common) direction for the wind is from the North and the best tides are low to mid, as at high tide the beach is narrow and the water is more choppy. In the summer season from May to September the trade winds known as Los Alisios blow across Lanzarote from the northeast. During this time the wind averages between 10 and 25 knots most days, and Famara beach picks up the Atlantic swell making it a perfect place to practice your wave riding on a sandy beach break. You’ll find more consistent waves for surfing in the winter season but the wind won’t be as predictable. A summer wetsuit or a shorty will be ideal here in summer, with something like 4/3 better for winter.</p><p>The Northern end of Famara beach has more stones and rocks on the beach and in the water so is recommended for more experienced riders only, but the Southern end is soft sand and perfect for anyone learning that might need to walk up the beach a few times. At low tide there is a larger area where you can stand in the water, making this the ideal time for beginners to learn kitesurfing, and there are multiple kite schools in the area who can get you up and riding.</p><h3>Around the kitesurf spot Famara</h3><p>La Caleta de Famara (the local town) has that natural sense about it, surrounded by wilderness and still has gravel paths, as yet untouched by mass tourism. Travelers can concentrate on the beauty of Mother Nature because there are no businesses other than kite schools, bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. One of the reasons people enjoy this sandy oasis is that it is devoid of the usual tourist trappings. This side of the island and the beach is one of the most picturesque in the entire area. Risco de Famara is the cliff which dominates the entire west coast of Lanzarote and watches over the kite spot at Famara. There are several cliffs including the island's highest peak as well as incredible panoramas, the most popular of which is Mirador del Rio. It looks like a roaring and soaring wave rises above the beach at Famara.</p><h3>How to get to Famara and how to move there</h3><p>Closest Airport to the Spot is Lanzarote Airport (ACE), about half an hours drive. The nearest Town is Caleta de Famara. Public transport is generally not great but it is possible to get the bus to Famara. However we’d recommend renting a car and being able to move around yourself, as not everything is within easy walking distance on Lanzarote.</p>

<p>With huge cliffs overlooking the beach, steady trade winds through the summer and surf all year round it’s no wonder people are taking notice of Famara for kitesurfing and surfing. Peak Season for kiteboarding in Famara is in June, July and August but it can be done any time of year, you’ll just want a thicker wetsuit in the winter. The beach of Famara is home to multiple kite schools which teach kitesurfing. There are no obstacles in the ocean, no rocks or reefs: only infinite beaches and sandy beach breaks. In addition, the wind and waves are onshore so they tend to bring you back safely to the beach, so there are no major concerns. When you arrive, you'll find a massive beach spread along a curved beach and offers stunning views of the hulking seaside cliffs, the white-washed village of Farmara and the wind-whipped surf which has made this beach so popular among kitesurfers.</p>

Famara

<p>Head out snorkelling or diving, rent a SUP, go mountain biking or quad biking, or just drive around the island and check out some of the other spots nearby. Fuerteventura is a touristy place so there are plenty of options to make sure you don’t get bored, and if you get island fever you can always catch the ferry to Lanzarote for a day trip.&nbsp;</p><p>The island also offers a number of good wave spots especially in the North, so if you want to try out some surfing there are a number of good options.</p>

It’s also located really close to the popular tourist town of Corralejo which offers restaurants, bars and parties depending on what kind of holiday you are looking for. The wind in the summer is very consistent here with the North East trade wind plus a thermal effect from the island itself ensuring that you’ll most likely score some epic kitesurfing. Fuerteventura is only a short flight from most of Europe and with cheap flights and holiday deals it’s easy to see why kitesurfers flock here year round.</p>

The water in Moledo varies from around 14 degrees celsius in the winter to 18 degrees celsius in the summer, so a wetsuit is going to be your friend here, but it’s totally worth it to enjoy this beautiful spot with Insua fort for a backdrop.</p><h3>Around the kite spot: Moledo</h3><p>In addition to kitesurfing, surfing on Moledo beach is very popular. Trekking tours or mountain biking in and around the local mountains are also an option if you still want to exercise! For a down day you can take a break in Caminha and visit some of the beautiful chapels and churches. Another nearby spot is Pincho's waterfalls, where you can go mini-canoeing, cliff jumping, or swim in one of the many small turquoise waters. Also, Why not take a ride to Monte Santa Tecla in Spain for breathtaking views of Portugal? As you can see there’s plenty to keep you occupied.</p><h3>How to get to Moledo Beach and how to bring it about while you're there</h3><p>Porto airport (OPO) is the nearest international airport to Moledo. The easiest option for travel in the area is to rent your own car, which can be picked up at the airport. Public transport will take a long time and options will be limited, so it’s much safer to get your own transport sorted out in advance.</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Oostende&nbsp;</h3><p>Like a lot of European kite spots the conditions can be changeable, but at least the forecasts tend to be fairly accurate, so you can plan your kitesurfing sessions pretty well. The main wind directions here are from the South West and West, which means cross or cross onshore wind. The swells also come in from the West, occasionally offering some really fun little waves, but often being more chop hopping than anything.</p><p>Summer from June to August is the best time to kite here because the temperature is pretty pleasant, but it’s also the weakest time for wind, so you really need to watch the forecast if you want to score a kite session. Also be aware that in July and August there are only certain areas you can launch and land your kite and kitesurf, so check the signs on the beach. The winter is when you’ll find the strongest wind in Oostende and the biggest swells, but it’s also normally stormy and cold so it’s up to you if you fancy venturing out, and you’ll need a thick wetsuit!</p><h3>Around the kite spot Oostende&nbsp;</h3><p>Oostende has a fair bit to offer other than kitesurfing, with several museums located there, and various art exhibitions and festivals happening throughout the year. If art isn't your thing you can also sample some Belgian chocolate, drink a Belgian beer or fill your face with shrimp croquettes which are a bit of a local delicacy. Fish is big business in Oostende and there are plenty of delicious dishes to try. If you want to stretch your legs a bit then you can take a bike ride into the beautiful local countryside, along one of the many cycle paths which are dotted around.</p><h3>How to get to Oostende and how to move there</h3><p>For all international travelers, Ostend Bruges International Airport is the closest airport, about 5.6 km away from the kite spot. Public transport is easily available around the area including getting to the kite spot, but obviously a car is handy if you’ve got one, particularly for getting out of a cold wetsuit!</p>

<p>Oostende can offer some great kitesurfing conditions if you get the conditions right, but like a lot of Northern Europe the most difficult thing is for all the stars to align, and to have sun, waves, wind and tide all on your side! It’s not really a beginner friendly kitesurfing spot as there can be a reasonably strong current and the waves can get quite powerful, but if you know what you’re doing there’s fun to be had here. The apartment blocks overlooking the beach don’t exactly offer the most attractive backdrop, and you’ll need to be aware of the wave breakers scattered up and down the beach, but if you’re in the area and the forecast looks promising then why not head down and enjoy it? It will work for kitesurfing in wind directions from South West round to North East, with North West blowing straight onshore.&nbsp;</p>
