But, the ideal condition for kitesurfing arrives between June, July, and August. Often considered as the peak season, the wind speed revolves around 17 – 23 knots. And the temperature remains between 24 to 32 degrees Celsius. For traveling, you can take a bus ride or hire a car from Bar. Generally, a bus ride will take around 3 hours 45 mins, and a car ride will take around 1 hour 10 mins. For international travelers, Aerodrom Podgorica is the closest airport around the location.</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Velika Plaza</h3><p>During the summer is the time you’ll want to plan a visit, when the temperature is a bit warmer and you can rely on the thermal wind to come through, delivering between 15 and 25 knots on most afternoons. The months for the most reliable thermal are from June to September, which also coincides with the busiest months for local and international tourists. It’s possible to score good sessions in May and October as well but it can be a bit more of a gamble, and be a bit lighter.</p><p>The first 100m or so are shallow, so perfect for beginners and reasonably flat for freestyle kitesurfers, with some small chop to deal with on takeoff and landing. The air temperature gets up to around 30 degrees celsius at the height of summer with the water a comfortable 22 degrees celsius. So from June to August you shouldn’t need a wetsuit, but at either end of the season a shorty or a thin full length wetsuit will be necessary.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Velika Plaza</h3><p>Nearby Ulcinj is one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro and has an old city complete with fortified walls and cobbled streets, which is definitely worth a visit to absorb some history. If that’s not your thing there are multiple beach bars and restaurants near the kite spot itself and more in town, so you shouldn’t struggle for options. Montenegro is also growing in popularity for white water rafting, mountain biking, climbing, diving and paragliding to name just a few of the no wind options. There are plenty of tour operators offering trips, so it’s good to plan a little bit before you travel to make sure you can fit everything in.</p><h3>How to get to Velika Plaza and how to move there</h3><p>Depending where you are travelling from will decide which airport you fly to, but the two options are Podgorica (TGD) and Tivat (TIV), both of which are around 1 to 2 hours drive from the kite spot depending on traffic. You’ll most likely want to pick up a cheap rental car from the airport and drive yourself, as most accommodation options are in Ulcinj about 10km from the kite spot. The best bet for accommodation is to be closer to the spot, as especially during the summer the traffic from Ulcinj to Velika Plaza can be horrendous.</p>

<p>Velika Plaza in Montenegro directly translates to long beach, so you can probably guess what the kite spot looks like, with a 14km long stretch of sand, flatter sections in the shallow water close to the beach, then some chop and small waves. The kitesurfing conditions are probably best described as bump and jump kitesurfing. It’s an up and coming destination which is starting to attract more and more kitesurfers every year, and since the beach is 14km long you are unlikely to run out of room. A reliable thermal blows during the summer season and you can generally expect 15-25 knots most days when the sun shines.</p>
