Generally at this time you don’t need to look at a forecast, just get up in the morning, look out the window to check the strength, and go kite! The rest of the year you can still be lucky and score some light wind kitesurfing sessions, but really you want to visit in season as there’s not a lot else to do other than kitesurf here. It’s a great place to learn kitesurfing as there are vast shallow areas, so you don’t feel uncomfortable and out of your depth.&nbsp;</p><p>There are a number of spots here ranging from butter flat to chop, the main lagoon out front of the pousadas can get very shallow and unkiteable at low tide, but at medium and high tide it’s great. If it’s low you’ll just have to walk out a bit further to get kitesurfing, head to another part of the lagoon by boat, or get a taxi upwind to do the downwinder. There are also regular parties organised by the pousadas so there’s generally a good atmosphere among all the visitors.</p><p>If you fancy a change Jericoacoara is a popular spot to go hang out for a few days and party, and there are plenty of other kite spots dotted up and down the coast of Ceara, so if you get bored in Guajiru you can always move to another place.</p><h3>How to get to Ilha do Guajiru and how to move there&nbsp;</h3><p>Fly into Pinto Martins airport, Fortaleza (FOR) and from there it’s around 3 hours to Ilha do Guajiru. You can either organise a taxi in advance with your accommodation or trip provider, or rent a car from the airport. If you hire a car be careful not to leave valuables inside, and watch out for potholes on the road particularly as you get further from Fortaleza.</p>

<p>Ilha do Guajiru is one of the largest kitesurfing lagoons in Brazil, and is very popular with everyone from total beginners to pro riders. The wind blows for about 8 months of the year from June/July until January/February, and as it’s a little further North the wind in Ilha tends to blow a bit longer than some of the spots closer to Fortaleza. There are an abundance of good quality pousadas on the spot, and it can get pretty busy in the season particularly when a large tour group descends, but luckily the kite lagoon is large enough that you can always find some free space to kitesurf away from the crowd. There are a number of different kite spots in the lagoon, and it’s also a popular place to do downwinders, which can be arranged via the pousadas or you can just jump in a taxi and get dropped off somewhere upwind if you’re feeling adventurous!</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Jericoacoara</h3><p>The town of Jeri itself is pretty well shielded from the wind, but outside the point it regularly hits 30+ knots. You have a number of options for kite spots to visit, either towards Prea which is more for waves, or Guriu and Tatajuba if you want flat water lagoons. The kitesurfing season in Jericoacoara starts in July and goes until January, and the trade wind blows almost every day without a break, averaging 20-35 knots, so be sure to pack your small kites if you plan to spend your time around this area.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Jericoacoara</h3><p>Jericoacoara is a small town where you can walk everywhere on the sandy streets, so a car really isn’t needed if you’re staying in town, but moving to the spots will require a buggy or 4x4. There are always parties happening in Jeri and particularly at weekends when there are more local Brazilian tourists it can get really busy in town. It’s nice to go sit on the point and watch the windsurfers during the day, a lot of pros come here to train and it’s impressive to see them ride. Then there is the ever popular Sunset Dune, where you can (shockingly I know) go and watch the sunset. It’s a beautiful spot and a short walk from town, but can get very crowded particularly at weekends.</p><p>Food and drink is everywhere here, with options to suit every budget and desire, and the Caipirinhas from the little drink trolleys are excellent. There are more and more Western style shops/restaurants/bars every year now so it’s starting to lose a little of the magic it used to have, but it’s still a great place to visit.</p><h3>How to get to Jericoacoara and how to move there</h3><p>Fly into Fortaleza Pinto Martins (FOR) Airport and then either drive, get a taxi or a bus to Jericoacoara. If you want to easily drive yourself into town you will want a 4x4 as the last part of the journey is through the dunes, and you risk getting very stuck with a regular car. You can also ask for a guide to help you in Jijoca which is the nearest town before the dunes, and they can help get your car down to Jeri for a fee. It’s also possible to drive from Prea at low tide with a 2 wheel drive car, but again safer to get a guide to show you the way and make sure you don’t get horrendously stuck! The drive from the airport is a long one, around 4.5-5 hours, so be prepared for that if you are driving yourself and be aware of potholes in the road. Buses run regularly from Fortaleza, but will require a change in Jijoca for the last bit. If you are staying in Jeri for the full length of your stay you won’t need a car, maybe just rent a buggy once you arrive to get to the spots.</p>

<p>Jericoacoara is a popular tourist stop in Northern Brazil and has been a windsurfing mecca since the 80s. It is a former fishing town in the middle of the sand dunes with pumping wind, and the town offers a nice mix of traditional Brazilian feeling and crazy parties all night long. This is a popular stopover when you fancy a bit of a rest from kitesurfing, rather than a main kitesurf spot itself, and great for a party and soaking in the vibes.</p><p>You can kitesurf from the sunset dune if you like but actually kitesurfing from the main point in Jericoacoara is forbidden and reserved for windsurfers only. In front of the dune is gusty and not much fun, so in order to kitesurf you will either want to get a buggy to the nearby lagoons and beaches, or launch your kite from Jericoacoara, kitesurf downwind and get picked up at the end. The local kite schools offer shuttles, trips and downwind services so the best bet is to get in touch with them for more info.</p>

Best way to get there is to park your Car in Jijoca and take a Public Transportation. If you want to get there with your Car, make sure to relieve some Air Pressure from your Tires. If you make your own way please use the beach road in Praia do Prea and choose low tide to drive. With a regular 2x2 Car stay on the upper side of the road. You sure do not want to get stuck at the beach when the tide is coming in.

<p>There are good reasons why in November 2018 the GKA Kitesurf World Tour was hold in Praia do Prea in the state of Ceara. In the international known "land of the wind" Brazil you will be surprised about the endless wind you can enjoy along the 15km coast side all day long. Praia do prea, unlike its brother Jericoacoara, is rather calm and laid-back, perfect to focus on your kiteboarding progression.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Icaraizinho is a calm and peaceful Kite Spot north of Fortaleza just around 3h drive away. During main season the Brazilian wind is just amazingly stable, kicks in between 10am and 12am and blows throughout the day. For couples or eremites the perfect place to be. Do not expect any more party than having a couple of Caipirinhas or Caipiroskas at night. Bring a good book with you, maybe there are not too many people around you to talk. Nevertheless it is a great spot to learn kitesurfing in Brazil as there is hardly any danger in the water. </p><h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions</h3><p>The wind is very stable and reliable. Given the shape of the bay you end up at beach if you screw things up. At least it is a wonderful "walk of shame" (when you are unable to stay upwind with your kite and you have to walk back). </p><h3>Around the Kite Spot</h3><p>There are some Vendors around in town who offer trips to <a href="https://kiteguide.com/kite-spot/jericoacoara" target="_blank">Jericoacara</a>, sort of the Mallorca of the northern coast. But careful, the beach road is a 3.5h drive at least and even if it sounds so magical: it is not. Your ass will hurt and next time you will take the Car (1.5h) or stay up north for a couple of days.<br />There are very few restaurants, very few bars, so not much to choose which makes life pretty easy. If you do not want to get bored out, better make sure to rent a car and have some fun days up in <a href="https://kiteguide.com/kite-spot/ilha-do-guajiru" target="_blank">Ilha do Guajiru</a>. </p><h3>How to get to Icaraizinho</h3><p>I wish we could say, take the train or the bus, but this is not that easy. It is highly recommended to arrange a pickup from your hotel - especially if you arrive at night!! Or, you rent a car and you make sure <b>you do not drive the first time in your life in Brazil at night.</b><br />Icaraizinho is very safe, but Fortaleza is like many big cities, pretty dangerous. Either you know what you are doing or you simply do not drive yourself. </p>

Half way between Fortaleza and Jericoacara there is Icaraizinho, a small fishing village with a handful of restaurants, bars and tiny supermarkets. The kitesurfing bay along the beautiful sandy beach is very relaxing. A great place if you really want to chill, relax in the sun, live life easy without too many choices and surf during the day. It is a great stop by before you go up to crowded <a href="https://kiteguide.com/kite-spot/ilha-do-guajiru" target="_blank">Ilha do Guajiru</a> or when you have had enough of the density stress and you are on your way back home. One way or the other, a great place to be for a couple of days.

The Kite Spot Galinhos is still an uncrowded Spot that offers more than some other Spots in Brazil. This spot is a real highlight with unique spot characteristics. In addition, due to some local strengthening effects, the Kite Spot Galinhos also has an even stronger wind than the area around Fortaleza. The wind blows mostly continuously, but builds up to full strength only by midday.

<p>Lagoa do Uruau has flat and shallow water, which gets a
bit choppier as you move away from shore further. The blowing wind makes the
water choppy, rippling with waves that make it trickier for a beginner. You’ll
need a little bit of kiteboarding skill and a round-edged board to glide
smoothly across the chop. Hence, it is a great place to practice freestyle,
wake style, ocean waves, or freerides. Just be careful with the few rocks and
oysters lurking beneath the surface. You can set up your kite on the massive
white sandy beach. Due to the different wind conditions in the different parts,
Uruau is a suitable kiteboard spot for surfers of all levels. The peak season

warm and stable winds from the east in the peak season, also known as trade
winds. The wind speed usually varies from 12- 25 knots but can reach up to 30

their skills and beginners wanting to progress. The kite spot Lagoa do Uruau is

are tired from kitesurfing, head to the spa to relax and replenish your energy.</span><span> </span></p><h3>How to get to Lagoa do Uruau and how to move there</h3><p></p><p><span>Uruau is 95km from Fortaleza International Airport,
around a two-hour drive via CE 040 route. Pass through Aquiraz, Pindoretama,
Cascavel to get to Beberibe. From here, follow the signs to Sucatinga. After
about 6km, you will drive over a bridge crossing the lagoon. Use a rental car
for independent travel. The lagoon also has a parking space for your vehicle.</span></p>

about 120 km southeast of Fortaleza. It is a premium kite spot that got its
name from the lake Uruau, famous for the practice of maritime sports. The beach

A guide can assist you/drive your car down the beach route that leads to Tatajuba once you arrive at Posto San Josè in Parazinho. Posto Sao Josè is located on the Fortaleza-Fortaleza highway.</p>

This village, surrounded by white and silky dunes, is a superb kitesurfing destination, with a strong breeze blowing all day. The major attractions of this location are the beaches and lagoons, and there are also a few reasonably priced restaurants and various little bars to get a cold Caipirinha. There aren't many stores here, but there is a market nearby to get all the basics.</p><p>Tatajuba is a calm and peaceful Kite Spot in Brazil which provides ideal conditions for everyone, from beginners up to professional kiteboarders. You may well bump into some pro riders if you are lucky, as many of them head to Tatajuba to train their big air kiteboarding. In recent years, the quality of kite schools and kitesurf spots has dramatically improved, with a number of bigger names in kite travel offering trips to Tatajuba. This great kiteboard spot in Brazil is ideal for Wake style, Freeride, and Freestyle kitesurfers, but the strong wind means big air kiteboarding is amazing here! The most typical starting point is a sandy beach which&nbsp;doesn't depend on the tide, you might just need to walk a bit over the beach at low tide. Kiteboarding is most popular in Tatajuba from August to December. This tranquil location is a kitesurfing paradise for anyone looking for a more isolated break where they can kite just outside their door and relax on palm-fringed beaches. Relax, there's no need for shoes here: wake up, dip your toes in the sand, and go barefoot through the gardens to have breakfast.</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Cumbuco</h3><p>The wind in Cumbuco is generally perfect for kitesurfing from July until December, averaging around 16-20 knots nearly every day. The launch from Cumbuco beach is sandy and wide enough for easy launching, just be aware there are some specific areas for launching if you are staying in front of one of the bigger hotels. The water is choppy as it’s the ocean, but at low tide it tends to be a bit flatter, and what waves there are tend to be cleaner and more fun. The wind generally starts a little lighter first thing in the morning (but is still more than enough to kitesurf), and then fully fills in by 10am or so. There aren’t really any hazards so to speak, just be aware of other kitesurfers and beach users as it’s a busy spot.</p><p>The two lagoons, Tabuba and Cauipe are both within easy reach if you want to get flat flat water, but they can both get horrendously busy in the season so just be aware of that. Tabuba is just 5 minutes up the road and Cauipe is a 10 minute buggy ride down the beach.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Cumbuco</h3><p>Cumbuco is a great place to stay if you want to hang around other kitesurfers, eat good food and party. There are loads of nice restaurants here, and a bunch of bars which offer specialty nights, with live music, djs etc particularly at weekends. If you don’t fancy a party the hotels further from the town centre are really quiet and relaxed, with lots of them offering yoga and massage. The dunes right behind town are a really beautiful spot to hang around and watch the sunset, or you can also rip around them in a beach buggy if you enjoy the faster pace!&nbsp;</p><h3>How to get to Cumbuco and how to move there</h3><p>Cumbuco is less than an hour from Pinto Martins Airport (FOR) in Fortaleza, and you can either get a taxi or rent a car yourself. Taxis can be booked in advance through your accommodation, which is the safest bet for a good price. Renting a car is also a good option if you want to explore more of Ceara and see some other spots, just don’t leave any valuables in your car as theft is a common problem. Also if you arrive at night very often you’ll see drivers running red lights when leaving Fortaleza; just follow their lead and the flow of traffic.</p>

<p>Cumbuco is the closest kite spot to the airport and as such is a pretty common first stopping point for kitesurfers visiting Brazil’s amazing Northern coastline. This former fishing village has become a popular tourist town built primarily around kitesurfing, which is also very popular with Brazilian tourists as well. There are hotels, hostels, restaurants and bars to suit all budgets, and it’s where you’ll find the biggest parties and loads of other kitesurfers to hang out with.&nbsp;</p><p>The beach front is a very popular kitesurfing spot and during the season you’ll see hundreds of kites all the way up and down the beach, with a few waves breaking here and there on the various sandbars. There are 2 popular lagoons nearby as well, so you can choose whether you want to kite directly off the beach in the ocean, or travel a little to visit the perfect flat water spots. Because it can get so busy it’s not for everyone, but it’s also a nice place to spend a night after a long flight, before heading further North to explore more of what Ceara has to offer. It’s also a popular starting point for the super long downwind trips you can do in Brazil.</p>
