If you fancy a change then a drive to a typical camel market to the South could be interesting, or you can just hang out and snorkel directly in Lahami bay itself. Diving is a great no wind activity, and touring the mangroves by boat is really interesting to see the incredibly diverse marine life here.</p><p>Further afield Egypt has tons to offer, from Luxor and Aswan to the pyramids at Giza, which are all worth visiting if you have the time.</p><h3>How to get to Lahami Bay and how to get about once you've arrived</h3><p>Marsa Alam International Airport (RMF) is the closest airport near the location, which is around 2.5 hours by car from Lahami. In general, public transportation isn’t the best, so it’s recommended to get a taxi from the airport to your accommodation. The easiest is to book this in advance through your accommodation as you’ll be guaranteed a fixed price that way. If you decide to get a taxi on arrival make sure you haggle hard and agree a price with the driver up front.</p>

<p>Lahami bay and Wadi Lahami lagoon offer a huge flat and shallow area, perfect for learning to kitesurf or work on your best freestyle tricks. There are also a couple of waves breaking at the outside of the reef, so if you fancy throwing your kite surfboard in too there’s fun to be had there. A 2 km long narrow reef with a fantastic snorkeling area protects the kitesurf spot, meaning the water always stays pretty flat, even when the wind picks up. The peak tourist season in Lahami Bay begins in May and lasts until September, but it’s a spot which works year round and the winter is popular with European visitors as it’s a pretty short flight.</p>

<p>El Gouna has a good mix of quiet relaxation and awesome parties, so you’ll find whatever you are looking for here. The marina has plenty of good restaurants around it, and the bars can be a lot of fun if you’re in the mood for a party, particularly at weekends when the Cairo crowd comes down to let loose. If you just want to unwind with a good book and relax that’s also a great option, with plenty of non windy spots available at the kite centres, along with food and drinks. If the wind lets you down you can visit the cable park, just be aware that every other kitesurfer in El Gouna probably has the same idea! Further afield you can do a day trip to Luxor and see some of the incredible Egyptian history, or fly up to Cairo to visit the Pyramids at Giza for a few days.</p>

Due to it being very much a constructed resort it’s not to everyone’s taste, but there’s no denying it’s got everything you could need from a flat water kitesurfing spot. <p>The peak season in Egypt and El Gouna is from around June until September, but there is wind almost all year and plenty of people visit for kitesurfing in March or November and get wind, it’s just not as reliable during the colder months. In season the wind normally is either on and blowing 20+ knots or it’s completely dead, it’s rare that you have anything in between. The spots around El Gouna are all flat water or slightly choppy at high tide, with a reef protecting the inner lagoons making perfect conditions for beginners and pro riders alike. There’s also loads of space so you’ll always find a spot to ride yourself, but the launching spots can get crowded and the kite centers enforce their own rules on the beach to avoid issues, so listen to them! This is a perfect beginner spot, with plenty of shallow flat water lagoons up and down the coast, so if you’re looking to learn it’s one of the best and easiest places in the world.</p><p>If you fancy a different spot then a day trip to Tawila island is a great butter flat water alternative, and you can find tours from all the kite centres.</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Dahab Lagoon</h3><p>Dahab is known for being windy, and with around 300 days of kiteable wind per year it’s no surprise it’s been popular among windsurfers and kitesurfers for years! The wind can come any time of year but the main season for kitesurfing is from March to November when it’s a little warmer. During those times the wind will often blow 25 knots or more, but Egypt can be very hit or miss so sometimes there will be a few days with nothing. The wind in Dahab isn’t always shown on the forecast as it’s thermal, so for the most accurate information it’s best to get in touch with the local kite schools and ask how the wind is. They will be able to tell you if it’s worth heading out!</p><p>Summer temperatures average above 30 degrees celsius, but the low humidity and breeze protect from feeling as sweltering as you might expect. Summer water temperatures range from 23 to 28 degrees Celsius, while winter temperatures range from 19 to 25 degrees Celsius. The winter from December until February can get pretty chilly as Egypt isn’t built for the cold, so you’ll want a wetsuit if you visit in these months, and it is highly recommended that you take warm clothing for the evenings, even if the weather isn’t super cold.&nbsp;</p><h3>Around the kite spot Dahab Lagoon</h3><p>Dahab has that allure that pulls people back, which reflects why there are so many yoga, wellness, spiritual, and healing courses going on here. It’s also possible to get the bus from Sharm to Dahab, gobus are the biggest local bus/coach company.&nbsp;Most places in Dahab itself are just within walking distance, and it shouldn't take more than 20-25 minutes to go from one place to another. To get to the lagoon from Dahab town you’ll need to get a taxi or jump in the back of a pickup, just make sure you agree a price up front with the driver so you don’t get ripped off.</p>

<h3>Wind condition for kitesurfing in Soma Bay</h3><p>There is a good chance of wind for kitesurfing in Soma Bay all year round but the most consistent months are between April and October, when the temperature helps the thermal keep the wind stable. People jokingly say Egypt has hairdryer wind, in that it’s incredibly warm and stable, and Soma Bay is no exception with the wind generally averaging 18+ knots when it blows, even getting up to 30+ occasionally. Pack your 9m and 12m to cover the most common kiteboarding conditions, and maybe a 7m too if you have space.</p><p>If you ride on the Northern end of Soma bay you will find the absolute flattest water as it blows directly offshore, but even in the middle of the bay it is still a great place to ride with regular rolling chop. There are several kite boats which offer daily trips out into the lagoon and include rescue services should you need them. Just be a little careful here when riding over reefs, especially at low tide, as you can end up with some nasty cuts if you crash on them.</p><h3>Activities around the kite spot Soma Bay</h3><p>The Red Sea is well known for its incredible diving and on no wind days this is a fantastic option in Soma Bay too, with some stunning reefs not far away, and if you aren’t a diver you can still see a lot just snorkelling. There are also various desert trips available where you can experience the brutal but beautiful natural environment and drink some amazing bedouin tea…. Or go smash around on a quad bike if nature and peace and quiet isn’t your thing.</p><p>El Gouna is a 1 hour drive North and offers more in the way of restaurants and bars, as well as a cable park for wakeboarding. It will take you 45 mins from there to reach Soma Bay, and taxi is the easiest option. If you book in advance it will save you arguing with a taxi driver at the airport. If you do decide to get a taxi on arrival just make sure you beat them down on price, because they WILL try and rip you off!</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Hurghada Bay</h3><p>Summers in Hurghada are long, hot, arid, and clear; winters are chilly, dry, and although there is an occasional bit of rain it's not common. There is wind throughout the year, but the strongest and most reliable winds blow on average 20 to 25 knots from May until October. A lot of kitesurfers who visit Egypt speak of the incredibly stable 'hair dryer wind' as it's warm and constant, and sometimes it can go weeks without a wind-free day. The winter months are a little less consistent, but still 60% of days are likely to have wind for kitesurfing so it's still a great kite destination.</p><p>During the summer it's board shorts and t-shirt weather, the water is always warm and the air temperature in July/August can sometimes reach 40+ degrees celsius, so be sure to pack your sun cream and a hat! During the cooler months October until April you will most likely want a neoprene top for kitesurfing or even a summer wetsuit, and you might want to pack a full wetsuit (3/2 should be fine for most people, although if you are a cold person maybe go thicker) if you are there around December-February.&nbsp;</p><h3>Around the Kite Spot Hurghada Bay</h3><p>Hurghada is a famous tourist getaway for northern Europeans, and traveling slightly South of the main town will bring you to Sahl Hasheesh, home to some of the nicest white-sand beaches and hotels along the Red Sea coast. 30-45 minutes drive North you'll find El Gouna, another (slightly more upmarket) resort town, with a large variety of restaurants and bars, and also the cable park for no wind wakeboarding days. Luxor and Aswan are stunning and a Nile trip is an incredible experience. Cairo and The Pyramids at Giza are a bit further away but also a fantastic way to spend a few days, just don't forget there are plenty of other pyramids in Egypt too if you don't want to travel all the way to Cairo. You can book trips through any accommodation provider or a reputable trip provider in Hurghada itself, or organise it yourself if you are feeling more adventurous.</p><h3>How to get to Hurghada Bay and how to move there</h3><p>Hurghada has an international airport (HRG/HEGN) with direct flights to Europe and the Middle East's major airports, with flights ranging from 3-5 hours long. Once you arrive at Hurghada Airport, the best bet is to take a taxi to your final destination, just be sure to make sure there is a working meter OR that you agree on a price beforehand, as Egyptian taxi drivers are well known for ripping off unsuspecting tourists.&nbsp;</p><p>Generally taxis are the best way to move around but buses can also be a great budget option particularly for longer trips. If you want to rent a car it's also possible, just be aware that not all Egyptian roads are in the best state of repair, and sand can drift across the road causing visibility and grip issues, so just drive safely.</p>

Generally there are two peaks in the wind, once in about June, and the other in September when you can almost guarantee wind. During August it gets very hot and the thermal wind dies off a little, so it can leave you without wind if you are unlucky, but you can still normally kitesurf the majority of days through the whole season. The winter months from November until March are less of a sure thing, but you can still get good conditions, and it can make for a nice break from a dreary European winter.</p><p>The water is flat to choppy here depending on the wind strength and the tide. Advanced kitesurfers will love it at low tide when the pools appear and the water is at its absolute flattest, but should watch out for really shallow patches! You can kitesurf at any tidal state, but the best bet is to ask the local schools for any dangers when arriving at any new spot.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Seahorse Bay</h3><p>Seahorse bay is a sleepy little spot, so if you want a bigger party you’ll want to visit El Gouna or Hurghada. The local area doesn’t offer much in the way of traditional Egyptian history, but you can fly cheap from most European countries, it’s warmer than Europe, and Seahorse Bay offers great flat water kitesurfing without the crowds that you’ll normally find at some spots in Hurghada itself.</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Hamata</h3><p>Hamata’s wind conditions are generally great for kitesurfing, but as with all spots in Egypt it can be on and off, so better to bring your whole kite quiver if you have the space! During the peak season between May and September, the wind generally blows between 15-25 knots when it’s on, but there are still down days where you’ll be better off with a 17m kite. The temperature in peak summer soars during the day towards 40?, so a lycra is definitely a good option in June, July and August to protect you from the sun. The cooler months (March-May and September-November) can bring stronger wind, and you’ll definitely want a wetsuit to keep you warm for longer sessions, 3mm is generally fine closer to summer, but maybe 4/3 in the winter months.</p><p>Don’t get too close to the mangroves and watch out for shallow water on the reef particularly at low tide. The mangroves are a protected area, so no kiting allowed, but your accommodation will be able to give you all the local information.&nbsp;</p><h3>Around the kite spot Hamata</h3><p>Hamata is very isolated so the only real options are kitesurfing, diving, snorkelling or fishing. If you want to venture further afield you can go and explore more of Egypt and the incredible historical and cultural spots, but plan at least a few days as you’ll be travelling a long way to get to them!&nbsp;</p><p>Food wise the accommodations generally offer full board, buffet style food with a mix of European and Egyptian cuisines. If you enjoy partying then Hamata isn’t your best bet, and even if you fancy a drink you might want to pick something up from duty free on your way as the selection locally can be limited.</p><h3>How to get to Hamata and how to move there</h3><p>Marsa Alam (RMF) is the closest international airport, which is around 2.5 hours drive from Hamata. Your best bet is to arrange a transport through your accommodation in advance, as Egyptian taxi drivers love to overcharge foreigners on arrival! If you plan to drive yourself that’s also an option, just be aware there are various security checkpoints en route so don’t be surprised if you get stopped by the army.</p>

With pretty consistent wind through the year this is definitely a good kite spot to put on the list to visit.</p>

<h3>Kitesurfing wind conditions in Safaga</h3><p>You can go kitesurfing in Safaga at any time of year but from March to November offers the best chance of wind and a nice temperature on the beach and in the water. Normally the wind in the afternoon is more reliable as the thermal picks up at 11am and pulls it round to side shore, but you can generally find your spot to kite all day long. The wind in Safaga is generally either on or off, and when it’s on it blows 20 knots and more.</p><p>This kitesurf spot is a thermal wind spot. For this reason, wind statistics and forecasts are not reliable, because generally wind forecasts are not able to display and predict thermal wind systems. To get more specific wind information you can check with the local&nbsp;kite schools.</p><h3>Around the kite spot Safaga</h3><p>There are a few other kite spots within easy reach, including Tobia island, Soma Bay, El Gouna and Hurghada. For no wind days there is amazing diving just off the shore, and snorkeling if you want to stay on the surface. El gouna also offers a cable park for no wind days, but it can get busy as all the kitesurfers from all the nearby resorts head there, so it might be worth calling and booking a spot in advance.</p><p>For a longer trip Luxor can be reached for a day trip, to see some of the incredible historical monuments Egypt has to offer, and if you want to make a longer trip then you can spend a few days on a Nile boat from Luxor to Aswan.&nbsp;</p><h3>How to get to Safaga and how to move around there</h3><p>Hurghada International Airport (HRG) is the closest airport to the kite spot and the easiest option is to take a taxi from there to Safaga, which will take around 50 minutes. The easiest is to book your transport through your accommodation, but it’s perfectly possible to get one on arrival, just be prepared to haggle and agree a price up front. In Safaga itself you can either walk or get taxis depending how far you need to go.</p>

<p>Safaga is a well-known flat water kite spot located 5 km South of Soma Bay, offering a more traditional Egyptian village with minimal tourist facilities. There are a few shops and cafes here and there, as well as a small market and a fish and vegetable market. Depending on the tide and the spot you choose to locate yourself, you’ll have large sandy beaches and sparkling turquoise waters surrounded by rugged terrain. Safaga is also a fantastic dive and snorkelling site so if the wind lets you down there’s still plenty to do</p><p>It’s not a spot for wave riders, but if you’re looking to learn or to practice kitesurfing in flat water then Safaga offers a huge area with warm water and consistent wind.</p>

There are often coral pieces in the standing area where you can injure yourself. For those kitesurfing in the standing area better wear shoes. The sandy beach offers enough space to build and dismantle the kites as well as for the first steering exercises.
